The Ondo State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the deaths of three siblings whose bodies were discovered at a farm around the Owena Army Barracks in Akure, the state capital.

The victims, identified as 11-year-old twins, Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing, reportedly accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm on Friday.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, said the children were asked to return home at about 3 p.m. while their father remained at the farm to complete his work.

According to him, trouble started when their father returned home and discovered that the children were missing.

A search was subsequently launched for the siblings, but efforts to locate them yielded no result until the following day when their bodies were found around the bank of a small river within the farm.

The discovery sparked concern as the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths remained unclear.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, ordered a comprehensive investigation to establish what happened to the children and determine the circumstances that led to their deaths.

Jimoh said detectives had commenced work, adding that available facts and evidence were being documented as investigators sought to piece together the events leading to the tragedy.

The command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while the investigation continues.

The police assured that every necessary step would be taken to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three siblings.

The tragedy has left the family and residents of the area seeking answers to how three children who went to a farm with their father ended up dead within hours of being reported missing.
