The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has constituted a burial planning committee for its late leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100.
The decision was reached on Tuesday during a meeting of the organisation’s National Executive Committee at the deceased’s Akure residence in Ondo State.
The committee, chaired by Olu Abo of Ilu Abo, Oba Olu Falae, will work with the family’s burial committee and the government committee to ensure a befitting burial for the late elder statesman.
Fasoranti’s family had earlier fixed December 17, 2026, for his funeral service and interment.
The committee includes prominent Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers, politicians, clerics, professionals and community figures, with plans to expand its membership.
Oba Falae said the immediate priority was to give the late Afenifere leader a befitting burial, warning that discussions about who would succeed him were premature and contrary to Yoruba cultural values.
He said a credible leader would emerge after the burial, stressing the need for unity among the groups involved in the burial arrangements.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Olori Rachael Falae described Pa Fasoranti as a quiet, disciplined and trustworthy leader whose integrity earned him respect in Akure.
She recalled his contributions as a local government chairman and school principal, including the construction of important roads in Akure during his tenure.
Olori Falae said the late elder statesman remained firm in his convictions despite challenges and was widely respected for his role in resolving difficult community matters.
She added that tributes would begin on the Monday preceding the funeral, with specific days allocated to different groups to honour the late Afenifere leader.
