The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer, Toluwanisings, Mrs Damilola Olayemi, has reportedly reached an agreement with her late husband’s father over the singer’s final resting place, bringing an end to the controversy that had generated widespread reactions on social media.
The disagreement arose following the widow’s reported objection to plans to bury the singer within his mansion in Ibadan. She was said to have expressed concerns about having to see her husband’s grave every day, preferring instead that he be buried in a public cemetery.
However, the singer’s father reportedly insisted that his son should be taken to his hometown and buried beside his late mother if burial at his Ibadan residence was not possible.
The development sparked heated debates across social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing different opinions about the disagreement. Some questioned the widow’s decision, while others called for caution and understanding, considering the emotional trauma associated with losing a spouse.
The controversy also attracted calls from members of the public for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s sudden death.
Providing an update on the matter in an Instagram video on Sunday, Toluwanisings’ close associate and fellow gospel musician, Lanre Alewilese, disclosed that the disagreement between the widow and the singer’s father had been resolved.
Alewilese explained that the dispute resulted from a misunderstanding, stressing that the widow had a good relationship with the deceased and was accommodating towards his associates and band members.
He confirmed that both parties had eventually agreed that the late singer would be buried at his residence in Ibadan.
The associate also appealed to Nigerians to desist from making hurtful comments against the widow, pointing out that she was only 32 years old and was already going through a difficult period following the loss of her husband.
He urged members of the public, fans and well-wishers to respect the family’s privacy and allow them to grieve without further pressure or unnecessary controversy.
The resolution is expected to bring some relief to the family and loved ones as preparations for the final burial arrangements continue.
Toluwanisings’ death has continued to attract attention among gospel music lovers, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of the young singer.
