Russian forces have launched a ballistic missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, damaging residential buildings and leaving at least two people injured.

Kyiv Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, disclosed this on Saturday, saying explosions were heard in the city’s suburbs as Russian forces targeted infrastructure with ballistic missiles.

He explained that debris from the attack struck a five-storey residential apartment building in the western part of the capital, damaging its exterior, while another residential building was also affected.

A building housing a kindergarten was equally damaged, according to the city’s military administration.

Emergency officials confirmed that two people sustained injuries, while residents were warned to remain alert over the possibility of further attacks.

The development comes amid renewed concerns over Russia’s military campaign, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warning that Moscow was preparing fresh attacks on energy facilities, bridges and other critical infrastructure.

The latest attack also comes ahead of US-led diplomatic talks involving Russian and Ukrainian representatives scheduled to begin in Abu Dhabi in an effort to find a resolution to the four-and-a-half-year war.
