As Nigeria celebrates the National Children’s Day, the wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has urged parents, guardians, the Nigerian government and other stakeholders to always prioritize the education of every child.

Anyanwu-Akeredolu made the charge while commemorating May 27, the national day observed annually to celebrate children and raise awareness on issues that affect them.

She said that prioritizing children’s education is important as it forms the basis of defence for them in knowing and standing for their rights in the society.

”When a child is educated, they will be given the ability to contribute their quota to the community, they can avoid situations that can endanger them as regards their health and their future as a whole,” the First Lady said.

She further noted that no matter the challenges, no child’s education and development should be denied.

Children are essential in National development as statistics show 40.9% of the Nigerian populace are below age 14.

“They are vital, and they must be protected and given all necessary solid foundation as they determine the future of the country,” Anyanwu-Akeredolu said.

Harping on the importance of quality education as a potent tool for children to take on the future with confidence, she said educating children is the best way to prepare them for leadership and help them to cope with life’s challenges.

She said: “Nigerian children are resilient, talented and aspire to do great things. And it is our responsibility to give them the platform and encouragement to do just that.”

The First Lady appreciated the teachers and educators for the vital role they continue to play in the lives of Nigerian children, especially in Ondo state.

“As we celebrate our children today, I wish all children of the sunshine state a safe and amazing celebration,” Anyanwu-Akeredolu said while expressing her best wishes.
