The Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC) is set to partner with the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) to challenge the perception that engineering is a male-dominated profession.
The proposed collaboration, discussed during a courtesy visit to the corporation’s Director-General, Mr Odusola Stephenson, is aimed at inspiring young girls to pursue careers in science, technology and engineering.
APWEN’s delegation, led by the Chairman of its Akure Chapter, Olaseyinde Adegboyega, said the partnership would help the association publicise its programmes and reach a wider audience.
The association stressed the need for increased public awareness to encourage girl-child participation in engineering education and expose young girls to the opportunities available in the profession.
Also speaking, OSRC Deputy Director of Engineering and Technical Services, Mercy Akingbade, called for a shift in societal attitudes towards women in technical fields, stressing the need to create more opportunities for girls to thrive in engineering.
Responding, the Director-General of OSRC commended APWEN’s commitment to promoting engineering education and assured the association of the corporation’s support.
He expressed readiness to use the corporation’s media platforms to publicise APWEN’s programmes and initiatives aimed at encouraging more girls to venture into the profession.
The visit featured the presentation of a gift to the Director-General by the APWEN delegation in appreciation of the reception.
