The Ondo State Government has strengthened disease surveillance and emergency response measures following a reported confirmation of an imported Ebola Virus Disease case in Abuja.
At an emergency stakeholders’ meeting held at the Ministry of Health in Akure, the government said no Ebola case had been recorded in the state as of Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
The Director of Public Health, Dr. Isaac Aladeniyi, said surveillance had been intensified across the 18 local government areas, with primary healthcare centres and tertiary hospitals placed on heightened alert for early detection and prompt response to suspected cases.
The State Epidemiologist, Dr. Ayo Orimolade, stressed the need for strict infection prevention and control measures, including regular hand washing, appropriate screening and the use of personal protective equipment by healthcare workers.
Residents were urged to remain calm, avoid self-medication and refrain from spreading unverified information on social media.
The government advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe headache, unusual fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting or unexplained bleeding to seek prompt medical attention.
Dr. Orimolade expressed confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to manage the situation, citing lessons from the successful containment of the 2014 Ebola outbreak.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health through strengthened surveillance and collaboration with national health authorities, while urging residents to remain vigilant and observe recommended hygiene practices.
