England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001 to receive football’s prestigious individual award.

The 33-year-old was honoured at a ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, following a remarkable 2025–2026 season in which he scored 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich across all competitions. His outstanding performances helped the German club secure a domestic league and cup double.

Kane’s achievements also extended to the international stage, where he scored six goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and helped England reach the semi-finals. He finished the season with 73 goals for club and country, underlining his exceptional consistency in front of goal.

Reacting to the award, Kane expressed gratitude to everyone who supported his career, including his coaches, teammates, former club Tottenham Hotspur and his wife, Kate. He encouraged young footballers to remain determined, stressing that hard work and perseverance could help them achieve their dreams.

French forward Kylian Mbappé finished second in the voting, followed by Spain’s Lamine Yamal, Manchester City midfielder Rodri and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Kane’s triumph marks a significant milestone in his career, adding the Ballon d’Or to his achievements as England’s record goalscorer and one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

The victory also ends England’s 25-year wait for a male Ballon d’Or winner, following Owen’s success in 2001.
