The Director-General/Chief Executive of the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, Mr Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, has felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to remain committed to peace, unity, patriotism and the collective development of the country.
The Director-General, in a goodwill message marking the anniversary, described October 1st as a significant date in Nigeria’s history, providing an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the country’s journey since independence, acknowledge the progress recorded and renew their commitment to building a stronger, more peaceful and prosperous nation.
He said nation-building was a collective responsibility, stressing that the progress and stability of Nigeria require the commitment and positive contributions of individuals, institutions and organisations across the country.
According to him, the media has a particularly important role to play in national development, noting that broadcasting goes beyond informing and entertaining the public to promoting unity, preserving cultural values, encouraging responsible citizenship and providing platforms for meaningful public discourse.
The broadcaster is also marking a significant milestone this year with the first anniversary of its transition to 24-hour broadcasting.
The DG described the commencement of round-the-clock transmission one year ago as a major step in the organisation’s transformation and its determination to provide greater access to credible information, quality programmes and entertainment at any time of the day.
He explained that the initiative was not merely an extension of transmission hours, but part of a broader effort to reposition the Corporation as a modern, responsive and audience-focused media organisation capable of meeting the changing needs of its listeners and viewers.
He commended the management and entire workforce for the dedication, professionalism and sacrifices that have sustained the 24-hour operation over the past year.
The Director-General particularly acknowledged the contributions of the News, Programmes, Engineering, Marketing, Administration, Finance, ICT and other departments whose activities are critical to the successful operation of the Corporation.
He stressed that the achievement was made possible through teamwork and a shared commitment to growth and excellence.
The DG, however, noted that the first anniversary of 24-hour broadcasting should not be seen as the end of the journey, but as a foundation for greater achievements.
He reaffirmed Management’s commitment to improving broadcast content, strengthening technical and operational capacity, embracing emerging technologies, developing innovative programmes and expanding the organisation’s reach to audiences within Ondo State, across Nigeria and beyond.
According to him, the changing media landscape requires continuous improvement, innovation and the adoption of modern broadcasting techniques to remain relevant and responsive to audience expectations.
He further stressed the need to sustain the principles of accuracy, fairness, professionalism and responsibility in news gathering and programming, assuring that the expanded broadcast hours would continue to provide meaningful content that reflects the aspirations, culture and development priorities of the people.
The DG expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Government for its continued support and commitment to the growth of the Corporation, noting its strategic role in disseminating information, promoting public awareness and providing platforms for engagement on issues affecting the people.
He also appreciated listeners and viewers for their loyalty, patronage and constructive feedback, describing the audience as central to the organisation’s continued relevance.
The Director-General assured the public that the Corporation would continue to improve its services and maintain its commitment to credible information, quality programming, education, entertainment and development-oriented broadcasting.
While congratulating Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary, he called on citizens to continue to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, unity and responsible citizenship.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would continue to make progress despite existing challenges, urging citizens to remain hopeful and contribute their quota to national development.
The DG also congratulated the entire workforce on the first anniversary of 24-hour broadcasting, describing the milestone as a reflection of the resilience, commitment and determination of the staff.
He urged them to remain dedicated to their duties and uphold the values of professionalism, teamwork and excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He wished the Government and people of Nigeria a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary, while expressing confidence that the years ahead would bring greater opportunities for national development and further transformation of the Corporation.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria.
