Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism about the country’s economic future, declaring that Nigeria is moving beyond the difficult phase of economic reforms into an era of prosperity.
She made the declaration on Saturday in Enugu State during the South-East Women Mega Empowerment Rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mobilisation Directorate as part of activities to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said President Tinubu had asked her to reassure Nigerians that the economic reforms introduced by his administration were expected to usher in improved economic conditions and greater prosperity for the country.
Using an analogy drawn from the final stages of pregnancy, Senator Tinubu likened the current economic situation to a period of waiting before childbirth, expressing confidence that the challenges associated with the reform process would eventually give way to positive outcomes.
She maintained that the administration remained committed to improving the living conditions of Nigerians and creating opportunities for economic growth and development.
As part of efforts to support women financially, the First Lady also announced plans to empower 250 women across the South-East geopolitical zone with grants of ₦200,000 each to establish or expand small-scale businesses.
She further disclosed that another empowerment initiative targeting 250 elderly women had been scheduled for December 17.
According to her, the two initiatives form part of a broader intervention expected to benefit 750 women across the five South-East states, providing financial assistance to support their livelihoods and economic independence.
The programme is aimed at strengthening women’s participation in economic activities, promoting small businesses and improving the financial capacity of beneficiaries.
Senator Tinubu also encouraged residents of the South-East to support President Tinubu’s administration and its re-election ambition in the 2027 general election.
The rally formed part of the APC’s wider political mobilisation efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots support and engaging women across the country ahead of the next general election.
