The Ondo State Government has commenced palliative intervention works on the failed portion of the federal highway just before the Fasoranti Flyover in Akure, to ease traffic flow and ensure safety of motorists.
The intervention, directed by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, FCA, is aimed at addressing the deteriorating condition of the road which had become a source of concern to commuters and residents.
Heavy duty equipment and construction workers of the State Ministry of Infrastructure were seen on site carrying out grading, filling and patching of the distressed spots which had caused gridlock and hardship, especially during peak hours.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, who supervised the exercise on behalf of the State Government, said although the road is a federal highway, the Aiyedatiwa administration cannot fold its arms and watch the people suffer due to its deplorable state.
He explained that Governor Aiyedatiwa ordered the immediate intervention in line with his administration’s commitment to responsive governance and the safety and welfare of the people, pending a more permanent reconstruction by the Federal Government.
According to him, the intervention is part of the broader OUR EASE agenda of the administration, which prioritizes infrastructural development and ease of movement across the state.
Motorists and commuters plying the route have commended the State Government for the swift intervention, describing it as a relief and a demonstration of people-centred leadership.
They appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action on the total rehabilitation of the federal highway to complement the efforts of the state government.
