Power Rotation: Stakeholders crave guiding principle in Nigeria’s political space

The rejection of power shift to the south in 2023 by the Northern Governors’ Forum has been viewed by social commentators and other stakeholders as a negotiating strategy to further assert the region in the Nigeria’s political space.

Those who spoke with OSRC in Àkúré said though the president can come from any part of the country with a simple majority, the rotational arrangement is an important principle to guard against dominance of a particular section.

OSRC’s Richard Ilesanmi reports that the northern governors under the aegis of the Northern Governors’ Forum had in a communique after their meeting in Kaduna said rotational presidency was unconstitutional
