The Senate has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to urgently investigate the killing of 113 people, including six Mobile Police officers, in multiple attacks on communities in Benue State.
The lawmakers also urged the Chief of Army Staff and heads of other security and intelligence agencies to intensify security operations in the affected areas to prevent further violence and safeguard residents.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Senator Emmanuel Memga Udende, representing Benue North-East Senatorial District, over recurring attacks in Ukum, Katsina-Ala and Logo Local Government Areas.
Presenting the motion, Udende expressed concern over the persistent violence, which he said had resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of residents, while disrupting farming and other economic activities.
He reported that 24 people were killed in Sai, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, while 63 others died in attacks on Bom and Aboajio villages in Ukum. Another 15 people, including six Mobile Police officers, were reportedly killed in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area.
The senator further cited the killing of 11 people in Tse Biliji and Tse Shishi Nyako villages in Ukum on October 8, 2026.
The four incidents brought the reported death toll to 113, prompting the Senate to demand urgent security intervention to end the recurring attacks, protect vulnerable communities and restore peace to the affected areas.
