Efforts to expand access to clean and reliable water in Ondo State have recorded progress, with a monitoring team from the African Development Bank and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation inspecting ongoing project sites in Akure and its environs.

The team assessed the construction of an office complex, laboratory building and workshop, as well as the laying of water pipelines across parts of the state.

Project consultant, Gbenga Oluokun, said the office complex and laboratory were 40 per cent complete and expected to be delivered in seven to eight months, while the workshop building had reached 70 per cent completion, with delivery expected within three months.

The inspection brought together representatives of the African Development Bank, the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, project consultants and the Ondo State Water Corporation to review progress, compliance with contractual obligations and prospects for timely delivery.

Pipeline installation has, however, caused temporary disruption to movement and commercial activities in some areas due to excavation along roads and near homes and businesses.

Despite the inconvenience, residents expressed hope that the project would deliver a more dependable water supply and that affected areas would be properly restored.

Beyond the buildings and pipelines, the success of the project will depend on its ability to translate infrastructure investment into reliable water supply for households and communities across Ondo State.
