Women in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have commended the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for keying into the world bank supported Nigeria for Women Programme Scale up Project, describing it as a timely intervention that will improve their socio-economic wellbeing.
This came to the fore during a sensitization programme on the project at Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government area , where market women, traders and other relevant stakeholders were present.
The World Bank supported programme tagged Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up project is designed to enhance women socio economic stability and strengthen livelihoods across participating communities.
The programme is open to all women aged 18years and above who has a livelihood such as traders, artisans, among others.
In Ondo State, the project is being piloted in the three Local Government Areas across the Senatorial Districts of the state, as sensitization begins from Ilaje Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Bosede Osamaye charged beneficiaries to fully embrace the programme and make judicious use of the opportunities provided.
While appreciating the efforts of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner emphasized that active participation, commitment, and accountability are key to ensuring the sustainability and success of the project.
The State Project Coordinator Dr Mrs Jumoke Bakare, also urged the women to take ownership of the initiative, assuring them of continued support and effective monitoring to achieve the desired outcomes.
In their separate messages at the event, the chairperson of Ilaje local Government, Mrs Oripenaye and the Oba of Ogbaro, His Royal Majesty, Oba Obafemi Ogbaro commended the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa, describing the initiative as a robust development to ensure the wellbeing of the women.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the state government for prioritizing women focused programmes aimed at poverty reduction, skills development, and financial inclusion.
They opined that the initiative has opened new opportunities for entrepreneurship, improved access to training, and strengthened their capacity to contribute meaningfully to household and community development.
They pledged their continued support for the Aiyedatiwa administration, noting that the project reflects a strong commitment to grassroots development.
This senstisation meeting will immediately be followed with women forming Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) for ease of fund assessment under the NFWP-SU project.
In attendance at the Engagement were the Ilaje Local Government Chairman, Hon Maurice Oripanye and his darling Wife, The Ilaje Vice Chairman, Hon Mrs Oluwarantimi Esejuwon, The Ilaje APC Chairman, Hon Raphael Adegboye, The Secretary of the Ilaje Traditional Council of Obas, The Ese Odo Vice Chairman, Mrs Beauty Modimu The General Women Leader, Mrs Efurubu and a host of others. The SPCU team was led by Dr Jumoke Bakare, While the Team from The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development was led by the Hon Commissioner, Dr Seun Bosede Osamaye.
The train of this development initiative now moves to Akure North and Akoko Northwest Local Government Areas.
