  • Gov clears backlog of salary arrears, confirms appointment of Rector

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO).

The move followed engagements with management and labour unions over harmonization of payment schedules for the staff of the institution.

The Committee is headed by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire. Other members of the committee are: Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye.

The committee is expected to liaise with the Polytechnic’s management, the unions and relevant state agencies to audit payroll data, reconcile implementation gaps, and recommend a sustainable payment structure.

This is just as the Governor has cleared the outstanding three months salary arrears of the workforce of the institution.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Education, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, noted that resolving the salary issues was necessary to stabilize the institution and restore confidence among academic and non-academic staff.

Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa has confirmed the substantive appointment of the Rector, Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun. Dr. Adegun has been holding the position in acting capacity since October 2024.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has restated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and to keeping state-owned tertiary institutions functional.

Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan,
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State.
