The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has begun closing public and private schools that failed to enrol on the Digital National Education Management Information System, DNEMIS.

The enforcement exercise is part of efforts to ensure compliance with government directives and strengthen the state’s education sector through reliable data collection and management.

To drive the exercise, the Ministry has inaugurated a taskforce to operate across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, had earlier directed the closure of schools that failed to register on the digital platform despite previous notices and opportunities to comply.

He warned that any school yet to meet the DNEMIS registration requirement would remain shut indefinitely until it fulfils the stipulated requirements.

The DNEMIS initiative is designed to improve the collection, management and accessibility of reliable educational data to support effective planning, monitoring and decision-making in the state’s education sector.

Ajibefun explained that enrolment on the platform is part of a collective effort to strengthen educational development in Ondo State, particularly in improving school infrastructure, planning and the effective allocation of resources.

He urged school proprietors and administrators across the state to comply with the registration directive, stressing that the exercise is not intended to witch-hunt any school but to ensure that all institutions operate within established guidelines.

The commissioner also admonished parents to ensure that administrators of their children’s schools have complied to avoid embarrassment.
