Rail transportation is a means of transferring passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails.

Nigeria embraced the idea of rail transportation in 1896 with the construction of railways from Lagos to Ìbàdàn by british colonial masters.

However, years of neglect reduced the capacity and the quality of railway in the country until the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan who decided to remodel Nigeria’s rail transportation.

In this special report, OSRC’s Joy Pius traces the history of rail transportation in Nigeria to the present status as revolutionized by President Mohammadu Buhari.
