Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has resigned as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum.
Tambuwal announced his resignation at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting going on in Abuja.
His resignation is not unconnected with the crisis of confidence rocking the party since former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.
The Sokoto governor fell out with his Rivers State counterpart Nyesom Wike after the former declared support for Atiku at the presidential primaries.
It was believed that Tambuwal’s last minute withdrawal as an aspirant at the presidential primaries paved way for Atiku to defeat Wike who came second.
Wike has been implacable ever since the primary and following the choice of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku’s running mate in his stead.
