In a reversal of fortune not commonly witnessed in soccer, Zion FC have qualified for the final of the maiden Betking Ondo State Residents Football Tournament.
The Ondo City team succeeded in pulling the nut out of the fire after losing their first game but winning the final two matches to top Group B.
Fasasi Ayomiposi broke the heart of Idanre United with his strike in the 31st minute for the only goal of the match.
Zion will on Sunday at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure meet ASO Football Academy who with a game to spare topped Group A.
Moments before then, NPFL All-Stars, Akure will in the Third-Place tie take on Owo’s leading football side, Emalex FC who secured a 2-1 win over Able God FC in their last tie.
Besides prizes for the champions as well as first and second runners up, there will also be special awards for the competition’s Top Scorer, Most Valuable Player (MVP) and outstanding goalkeeper.
The tournament was midwifed by Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to discover hitherto hidden talents in the state and provide opportunities for them to have shots at Sunshine Stars FC.
