The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association in collaboration with the State Department of Veterinary Services has declared a week vaccination to mark this year’s celebration of World Rabies Day.At the flag off ceremony for the week long free rabies vaccination of dogs across designated centres in the state, Chairman of the association Dr. Ayodeji Badejo noted that the overall goal is to achieve zero death and stamp out rabies in Ondo State.Dr. Badejo who said efforts will continue to be geared towards promotion of the quality of life of both human and animals further underscored the need to continually put zoonotic dieases in check stressing that no fewer than 1,500 dogs will be freely vaccinated during the weeklong programme.He further expressed high hopes that the robust deliberations of the day will give better insight to stakeholders as the aim of the event is to attain a knowledgeable society, free from dieases.Flagging off the event, Commissioner for Agriculture, Olayato Aribo said the state government has been complying with Federal Government policy on control of the deadly rabies and improvement of pet health through annual rabies control programme.Mr. Aribo who was ably represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Edward Tubosun further restated government’s commitment to the promotion of sound public health through efficient and sustained effort.He assured that Ondo State government will leave no stone unturned in seeing that the populace benefits from it’s arrays of interventions. Mr. Aribo encouraged people of the state to take advantage of the free rabies vaccination programe to improve the health of their pets.
