The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has ordered banks across the country to open for business on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
The move, it was gathered, is to enable Nigerians deposit their old naira notes as the deadline for the use of old naira notes is fast approaching.
CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, had insisted that the apex Bank will not extend the deadline for the old notes despite calls from various quarters for the extention of the deadline.
President Muhammadu Buhari in an interview had also backed the insistence of the CBN, saying government had given enough time for Nigerians to go and deposit their old naira notes in exchange for new ones.
