The Ondo state police command has said it is on the trail of those involved in the kidnapping of about 25 choristers of the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Oke Igan, Akure ,the state capital.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, while confirming the crime said, “Yesterday afternoon, the police was informed that a church Bus with the Inscription CAC was abandoned around Elegbeka area and there are suspicions that the passengers in the vehicle were kidnapped.

“The Police Anti kidnapping squad and other tactical teams have been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and arrest all involved in the crime.”

OSRC had reported that members of the church choir were kidnapped along the dreaded Ifon-Benin road around 3pm on Friday while traveling to Ifon in Ose Local Government Area for a burial ceremony of a parent of one of them.

A woman simply identified as Mrs Olanike told newsmen that two of his family members were among the kidnapped church members.

Olanike said the vehicle conveying the kidnapped choir members was seen abandoned on roadside.

The Owo-Ifon-Benin road, which is notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery, has been in a deplorable condition for years, making it easy for men of the underworld to perpetrate crimes of different nature along the road.

One of the major crimes along the route was the killing of a First Class monarch returning to his community from a state function on the 26th November, 2020.
