Elevation of Monarchs- Alale of Akungba applauds gesture as Govt elevates status to First Class Oba!

The Alale of Akungba Akoko in Akoko South- West LG ,Oba Isaac Adeyeye, Ajimo 111 is on the list of traditional rulers promoted by the Ondo State Government,thus moving from grade ‘B’ to ‘A’.

Oba Adeyeyes new status was announced at the State Executive Council, which also approved the elevation of some Chiefs to the status of Obas in various communities in Ondo State.      

Briefing journalists shortly after the weekly State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju disclosed that the names and upgraded grades of the affected monarchs would be published by the government in a White Paper which will be made available to members of the public soon. 

She, however, added that the issue of paramountcy is still pending and awaiting the amendment of the State’s Chieftaincy Law. 

Corroborating the submission of Information Commissioner,  the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sir Charles Titiloye said ”You will recall that sometimes ago, Ondo State Government set up Justice Ajama Panel to look into Chieftaincy Matters in the State, for government approval.

“The Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration has decided to implement the report submitted by that Panel.

This has given birth to the recommendations that have been approved by the State Executive Council, to that effect some Obas have been upgraded from grade  ‘C’ to ‘B’, and some from B to A. 

The Attorney-General, however, said those promoted should await government White Paper on their elevation which will soon be published by Government.

Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Akinwumi Sowore; and his Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources counterpart, Engr. Razaq Obe, added that Government would make the recognition and elevation of traditional rulers a continuous exercise, saying government would soon look into other cases which have not been attended to.

In his remarks, the Alale of Akungba Akoko, Oba Adeyeye, Ajimo III expressed heartfelt gratitude to Gov. Akeredolu for upgrading his status alongside other monarchs in the State.

The elated Kabiyesi said, “I sincerely appreciate our sagacious and amiable Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for considering Akungba-Akoko in the elevation of monarchs in Ondo State

“Arakunrin has broken the jinx by taking a bold step by righting the wrongs of the past.”
