The traditional age class system in Yoruba culture, which created a unique bond of brotherhood and promote peaceful coexistence for community development, was recently exhibited in Ifira, a city in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State. Aboriginal people from far and wide returned to the ancient community to celebrate as septuagenarians and sexagenarians were elevated to different ladders of the age grade system OSRC’s Zaheed Aribisala reports that the ceremony, known locally as ‘Idagbasoke’, takes place once in seven years.
