The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC, and the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, OSRC, have reaffirmed their commitment to a strategic partnership focused on development, public enlightenment, and urgent action on environmental challenges in coastal communities.
The commitment was formalized on Wednesday at OSOPADEC’s headquarters in Akure, during a courtesy visit by OSRC’s Director-General and Chief Executive, Mr. Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, and his management team to the Executive Chairman of OSOPADEC, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye.
Speaking during the engagement, Prince Poroye described the media as an indispensable pillar of governance. He emphasized that transparency, accountability, and effective communication are critical to translating government interventions into measurable impact.
“As a Commission, we recognize that development without communication is incomplete,” Prince Poroye said. “The media bridges government and the people. OSRC’s professionalism and statewide reach make it a strategic partner as we approach our first anniversary and scale interventions in oil-producing communities.”
The OSOPADEC Chairman expressed concern over the escalating impact of sea incursion and climate change on Aiyetoro and other riverine communities, noting the destruction of homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure. He announced that OSOPADEC will convene a global conference later this year to bring together environmental experts, development partners, and policymakers to chart sustainable solutions for coastal degradation.
Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson commended OSOPADEC’s investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and social interventions across its mandate areas. He pledged OSRC’s continued support through television, radio, and digital platforms to ensure visibility and public understanding of the Commission’s programmes.
“As a public broadcasting institution, OSRC is duty-bound to showcase development and inform citizens about projects that directly affect their communities,” he said. “Prince Poroye’s recent visit to Aiyetoro has refocused national attention on the crisis. We will ensure that attention translates into sustained action.”
The OSRC delegation also praised the Chairman’s direct engagement with coastal communities, describing it as evidence of leadership committed to solutions rather than rhetoric.
The renewed alliance between OSOPADEC and OSRC signals a coordinated approach to governance communication: ensuring that development in Ondo’s oil-producing areas is not only delivered, but documented, understood, and owned by the people it serves.
