63 years after Western Nigeria got self internal government from British colonialists, prominent Yoruba leaders have related the promise of that time which blossomed under late chief Obafemi Awolowo to the present day Nigeria as hope betrayed. Some of the leaders including Afenifere Chieftain, Olu Falae and the Olujigba of Ijigba, Luyi Rotimi said though August 8 1957 remains significant, there is a need for sober reflection owing to under-achievements witnessed in the region. OSRC’s Zaheed Aribisala reports that the leaders also called for restructuring of the country to allow each region to develop based on needs and priority.
