Update:Ondo Fire Incident- Suspect gives reasons behind act as police set to charge him to court

A 64year-old father, Joseph Ojo has explained why he wanted to kill all his five stepchildren whose he set ablaze last Saturday at Fagun, Ondo town.

According to the Police Spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami while parading the suspect on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police in Akure, three of the five children have already died as a result of the injuries they sustained in the incident.

During interrogation, the suspect, Joseph,who is the stepfather of the children claimed his wife was not taking care of him because of the step children and that the wife picked up a quarrel with him because he dropped Six Hundred Naira Only (₦600,00) as feeding money for the family.

The husband also said that he became angry, siphoned petrol from his chainsaw (felling machine) and poured it in the children’s room before setting it ablaze.

The police spokesperson said, On 5th November, 2022, a case of Arson/Murder was reported at Enu-Owa Division.

The complainant stated that at about 0300hrs, he heard a cry for help from his neighbour’s step-children’s room and discovered that the room was on fire.

He was however able to save four out of the five children in the room. The mother, while trying to save her children also got affected.

Tayo Akinfolarin Aged 7 years was burnt beyond recognition while the other four children were rushed to FMC, Owo.

Aanu Akinfolarin Aged 10, died on the way to the Hospital and Tope Akinfolarin,14 died on the 8th of November, 2022, while the two other children are still receiving treatment in the Hospital.

The twins bore to the suspect by the mother of those children are in safe condition, as they were not in the same room with their step siblings.

Odunlami said the suspect will soon be charged to court.

Police parade father who set Five Step-children ablaze In Ondo

The police in Ondo State have paraded a man, Ojo Joseph for setting ablaze five of his step- children.

Out of the children, one died instantly in the inferno while four were rescued and taken to Ondo General hospital.

The second child reportedly died on Saturday morning when taking them to FMC, Owo while the third died on Tuesday.

The suspect while being paraded said he set the children ablaze because of a quarrel between him and their mother

Analysts guage effects of Naira redesign on national economy

In what many have described as a surprise and drastic move, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced the redesign of the naira.

The affected denominations are the #200, #500, and #1000 naira notes.

The CBN says the new notes will be released for public use on december 15 and will circulate together with old notes which will be phased out eventually.

Orange 94.5fm set for recommencement of transmission

All is now set for the recommencement of transmission on Orange 94.5 fm.

The radio station, an arm of the OSRC media group, had suspended transmission due to the relocation of the outfit from shagari village to the headquarters of the media group at Orita Obele.

OSRC’s Zaheed Aribisala reports that the newly constructed studio for the station is now equipped with state of the art facilities to further improve the station’s output to the delight of its audience.

ODSG pledges support for mushroom farming

The Ondo State government says it will continue to address unemployment and poverty in the state, most especially at rural areas of the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Olayato Aribo, gave the assertion at a 3-day capacity building and empowerment programme for Ondo State farmers on mushroom production, processing and marketing.

Group of Ondo State Indigenes Honour Chief Gbenga Ale

Association of Òndó State indigenes in Nigeria, comprising Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo and diaspora alongside University of Lagos alumni association, Òndó and Ekiti axis, have presented awards to the Chief of Staff to governor Akeredolu, Chief Olugbenga Ale.

The award was given to Chief Ale in recognition of his unique leadership style in governance, just as he also received Man of the Year Award for the year 2022 for his humanitarian service in the state.

Chief Ale, while receiving the awards at the governors office, Akure, thanked the associations for deeming it fit to honour him promising to continue to give his best to the service of the state.

TRAGEDY::Ondo Fire Incident claims additional lives!

Two out of five children set ablaze by their 54 year-old step-father, Ojo Joseph,in Ondo town have died.One out of the five children died on Saturday immediately after the incident, while the two others who were rushed to the hospital after the incident occurred at Fagun area of Ondo town, died on Tuesday The man alleged that his wife who is the mother of the children offended him over a misunderstanding.

He was said to have poured petrol into the room while the children were asleep and set their room on fire.Spokesperson of the state police command, Funmi Odunlami confirmed that the two children died because they could not recover from the injuries they sustained.She added that everything is being done to save the two remaining children.

Odunlami said it is sad that two children have also died because of the severe burns they sustained in the infernoShe added that the man had been apprehended by the police for a case of alleged arson and murder.The PPRO had hinted that investigation is ongoing pending when the suspect would be charged to court.
